Biosystems Engineering Digital Library
The Biosystems Engineering Digital Library (BEDL) is an open-access resource platform created by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) to promote the globalization of the biosystems engineering discipline. BEDL is made available through a partnership between ASABE and the Virginia Tech University Libraries. Virginia Tech hosts the service and provides the long-term preservation of the objects uploaded to BEDL on behalf of ASABE.
BEDL provides university instructors, practicing engineers, and other professionals with a platform to freely share, access, and use educational materials from around the world. Contributors can upload various types of digital content, including images, videos, and datasets. Each contribution includes metadata that provides context and improves searchability. Importantly, contributors retain ownership of their original materials.
ASABE members act as moderators, reviewing submitted items and their associated metadata for clarity and completeness before inclusion in BEDL. BEDL fosters a global ethos of sharing. Users can download materials for their own teaching, continuing education, or project needs. They are encouraged to upload resources that others can use.
